Frequently Asked Questions
Why was SPJ founded?
Japan is experiencing a significant shift in its workforce culture. With both a labor and skill shortage, coupled with a shift from ‘lifetime employment’ to a more fluid labor market, and findings indicating that it is the least productive country among the G7 group, there is an evident need for an immediate solution.
Furthermore, year by year, Japan is increasingly dependent on integrating foreigners into its workforce. There is a pressing need to support both foreigners and Japanese staff in cultural adjustment to foster effective collaboration, allowing them to leverage their differences for improvement rather than letting these distinctions divide the team and the company.
Thirdly, while many large companies can afford to hire someone to specialize in employee engagement, this isn’t economically feasible for SMEs. As a consultancy, we provide comparable services at a lower cost than employing a full-time engagement specialist. Additionally, opting for an external and unbiased perspective, as opposed to an in-house staff member, allows for more robust and effective organizational changes.
Fundamentally, the company was founded to address the imperative to enhance the workplace environment in Japan, benefiting not only employees but also aiming to bolster competitiveness in the marketplace.

How are your solutions science-based?
HR is increasingly leaning on behavioral and data sciences for improvement. Data, being relatively self-explanatory, transforms qualitative insights into quantitative analysis, uncovering behavior patterns, predicting future trajectories, and pinpointing areas for necessary changes.
Incorporating behavioral science involves leveraging scientific studies on human behavior, particularly those addressing motivation, expectations, and perception. This approach allows us to design informed services and workshops that bridge theory to practical application in real-world situations.
